Ethics of Scientific Publication

1. General Principles

Implementasi Manajemen & Kewirausahaan (IMKA) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal managed by the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Wijaya Putra. The journal is published biannually.

This statement establishes the ethical framework governing all parties involved in the journal publication process, including publishers, editorial board members, editors, peer reviewers, journal administrators, and authors. The ethical standards adopted by IMKA align with internationally recognized principles of scholarly publishing ethics and are consistent with the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) No. 5 Year 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics of Scientific Publication, as well as internationally accepted best practices in academic publishing.

IMKA upholds fundamental ethical values, including:

Neutrality, ensuring editorial independence and freedom from conflicts of interest in editorial decision-making;

Fairness and Integrity, ensuring proper recognition of intellectual contributions and responsible authorship;

Honesty and Academic Integrity, ensuring that all published works are free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism.

The journal is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and scholarly responsibility throughout the editorial and publication process.

2. Duties and Responsibilities of the Publisher and Editorial Board

The publisher and editorial board are responsible for safeguarding academic integrity and ensuring the sustainability and credibility of the journal. Their responsibilities include:

  • Establishing the journal’s scope, academic focus, publication frequency, and accreditation strategies in accordance with international scholarly standards;

  • Appointing qualified and competent editorial board members based on academic expertise and professional integrity;

  • Establishing transparent contractual relationships among publishers, editors, peer reviewers, and other stakeholders;

  • Ensuring confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and protecting intellectual property rights in accordance with applicable copyright regulations;

  • Developing, implementing, and periodically reviewing editorial policies, ethical guidelines, and publication standards;

  • Establishing ethical conduct guidelines for editors and reviewers;

  • Ensuring the regular and timely publication of the journal;

  • Securing adequate financial and institutional resources to support journal sustainability;

  • Developing academic collaborations and scholarly networks at national and international levels;

  • Ensuring legal compliance, licensing, and regulatory requirements related to journal publishing.

The editorial board must maintain independence from commercial, political, or institutional pressures that may compromise editorial objectivity.

3. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

Editors hold primary responsibility for maintaining the academic quality and ethical integrity of the journal. Editors are required to:

  • Evaluate manuscripts exclusively on scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal scope, without discrimination based on nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, or personal beliefs;

  • Ensure that editorial decisions are made objectively and transparently;

  • Implement and supervise rigorous peer-review processes to guarantee publication quality;

  • Maintain confidentiality of manuscript information during the editorial process;

  • Preserve the integrity of academic records by issuing corrections, retractions, clarifications, or expressions of concern when necessary;

  • Promote academic freedom while ensuring compliance with ethical and methodological standards;

  • Continuously improve publication quality through consultation with authors, reviewers, and editorial board members;

  • Provide constructive guidance to authors for improving manuscript quality;

  • Support initiatives aimed at educating authors and reviewers about responsible research and publication ethics;

  • Manage conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where such conflicts exist;

  • Encourage responsible revision processes to ensure manuscripts meet scholarly publication standards.

Editors are responsible for editorial style and formatting, while the accuracy and validity of research content remain the responsibility of the authors.

4. Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers play a critical role in ensuring scholarly quality and research credibility. Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations of manuscripts based on scientific merit, originality, clarity, and methodological validity;

  • Decline review assignments if conflicts of interest exist or if they lack sufficient expertise;

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding manuscripts and review comments;

  • Provide clear and evidence-based feedback to assist authors in improving manuscript quality;

  • Identify potential ethical concerns, including plagiarism, data manipulation, or redundant publication;

  • Conduct manuscript reviews within the agreed timeframe to support timely editorial decisions.

Reviewers must not use unpublished materials disclosed in manuscripts for personal research or professional advantage.

5. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring the integrity, originality, and accuracy of their research. Authors must:

  • Ensure that authorship accurately reflects individuals who have made significant intellectual contributions to the research;

  • Accept collective responsibility for the entire content of the manuscript, including research design, methodology, data analysis, interpretation, and conclusions;

  • Provide transparent disclosure of funding sources, research sponsorship, and any potential conflicts of interest;

  • Ensure that data presented in the manuscript are authentic, accurate, and verifiable;

  • Properly acknowledge all sources of information through accurate citation and referencing;

  • Clearly describe research limitations and methodological constraints;

  • Respond to peer reviewer and editorial comments professionally, constructively, and within the designated timeframe;

  • Inform editors promptly if significant errors are identified after submission or publication;

  • Submit manuscripts that are original, unpublished, and not under review by other journals in any language;

  • Obtain necessary ethical approvals when research involves human participants, organizational data, or confidential information.

Authors may be requested to provide supporting research data to ensure transparency and reproducibility of findings.

6. Publication Malpractice and Ethical Violations

IMKA adopts a zero-tolerance policy toward academic misconduct. Ethical violations include, but are not limited to:

  • Plagiarism and self-plagiarism

  • Data fabrication or falsification

  • Redundant or duplicate publication

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

  • Improper authorship attribution

When ethical misconduct is suspected or identified, the editorial board will conduct an investigation following established ethical procedures. Sanctions may include manuscript rejection, article retraction, notification to affiliated institutions, and prohibition from future submissions.

7. Confidentiality and Data Protection

All parties involved in the publication process must maintain strict confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, editorial communications, and unpublished research data. Manuscript information must not be disclosed or used for personal advantage without explicit written permission from the authors.

8. Corrections, Retractions, and Editorial Transparency

IMKA is committed to maintaining the accuracy of the scholarly record. The journal will publish corrections, retractions, or clarifications when necessary to address errors, ethical violations, or misleading information. Editorial decisions regarding such actions will be conducted transparently and based on ethical publication standards.
